Title : Increasing Oral Hygiene Level with Android-Based Healthy Food E-book

Abstract :

Many methods are used to get the maximum oral health, through promotion, such as toothbrush education and demonstration for elementary school children. One way to improve children's behavior in maintaining oral and dental hygiene is to provide dental health education about how to brush teeth properly and correctly by using tools or media that are popular with children nowadays. According to current trends, the Android-based Healthy Food e-book is one of the right methods to change children's behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of an Android-based healthy food E-book on improving knowledge, parents’ role, and the Debris Index. This is quasi-experiment research. Samples of 150, 5th-grade elementary students, are divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group was given dental health education with a brushing demonstration using a jaw model and accompanied by an Android-based healthy food E-book and the control group was given dental health education only. The data of the Debris Index were gathered by 4- time-weekly examinations. Knowledge and Parents’ role were gathered by questionnaire before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed with t-test (p=0.05). The results showed that there were significant differences (p<0.05) in the Debris Index, knowledge, and parents’ role in improving oral and dental hygiene between the intervention and control groups. This study concludes that counseling with an Android-based healthy food e-book, as a breakthrough innovation, accompanied by brushing teeth demonstrations, can reduce the debris index, following increasing knowledge and parents’ role to improve dental and mouth hygiene.

Title : Evaluation of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Diagnostic Test: A Systematic Review Study Evaluating Antibiotic Disc, Chromogenic Media, and Polymerase Chain Reaction Methods

Abstract :

The infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to beta lactam antibiotic known as methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). This bacteria less the choice of effective antibiotic, increase hospital stay and cost, and mortality. Because of these problems, MRSA diagnostic testing must be done accurately. The gold standard of MRSA diagnostic testing PCR. Other that PCR, some methods that can be used for MRSA detection are antibiotic disc and chromogenic media. The three of them have diverse sensitivity, specificity, and turnaround time. Evaluating the diagnostic testing accuracy can be done by using sensitivity, specificity, and turnaround time. Based on the description above, this study has been carried out to evaluate the MRSA diagnostic test using antibiotic discs, chromogenic media, and PCR with a systematic review method. This research used Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses of Diagnostic Test Accuracy (PRISMA-DTA) for extracting and synthesizing data. 2,239 articles yielded and 59 of them fit the eligibility criteria used in this systematic review. Quadas-2 tool was used for risk of bias analysis. The sensitivity and specificity of MRSA diagnostic methods using antibiotic disc, chromogenic media and PCR were: 47,3-100% and 66,2-100%; 70-100% and 30-100%, 57,69-100% and 78,6-100% respectively. The incubation time is 16-48 hours for antibiotic disc, 18-48 hours for chromogenic media. The turnaround time is 36-48 hours for disc antibiotic and 58 minutes-6,5 hours for PCR. High resource laboratories can use PCR as a diagnostic method for MRSA, while limited resources laboratories can use antibiotic disc and chromogenic media. We conclude that MRSA diagnostic method using PCR has higher specificity and faster turnaround time than antibiotic disc, while chromogenic media has higher sensitivity than those two methods.

Title : The impact of dysfunctional severity on general quality of life in patients with temporomandibular disorders

Abstract :

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are associated with pain and dysfunction that can affect the quality of life. This study was designed to evaluate the import of dysfunctional severity on the quality of life in TMD patients. This case-control study involved 60 TMD and 60 non-TMD subjects. The Helkimo dysfunction index was used for classifying the TMD patients into mild, moderate and severe groups (n=20). The quality of life (QoL) was assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) in the control and different TMD classifications. The data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test. There was no significant difference in the scores of physical, psychological, social and environmental subscales among the four groups (P>0.05), but a significant between-group difference was noted in the overall subscale (P=0.003). Tukey test revealed that the mean overall subscale score in the severe group (49.37± 18.35) was significantly lower than that of the mild group (66.06± 17.97). Although QoL was lower in moderate and severe TMDs than mild cases and the control group, but the statistical difference between groups was only observed in the overall subscale. These data indicate that other factors than the severity of TMD could play a role in QoL of affected patients.
