Title : Biomechanical evaluation of the effect of acellular amniotic membrane loaded by autologous platelet rich plasma on bone healing in a dog model

Abstract :

It may be possible to hasten the healing of bone tissues using a platelet concentrate composed of cytokines and structural glycoproteins entrapped within polymerized fibrin meshwork. Due to the availability of numerous growth factors, the amnion membrane has also attracted significant attention in the field of bone regeneration. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of an amniotic membrane loaded with platelet-rich plasma on the healing of the fracture. These effects were demonstrated objectively by biomechanical testing. Fifteen mongrel dogs were used in this study. The animals were divided into three groups (n = 5 per group). A transverse osteotomy was induced in the midshaft of the left tibia of all animals, and then two groups of them were treated with bioscaffold (amniotic membrane) and platelet-rich plasma, while the third group was left without treatment. All fractured tibias are followed by a bone plate with screws as the following: The first group was treated with acellular amniotic membrane only by wrapping it around the fracture site. The second group was treated with acellular amniotic membrane accompanied by platelet-rich plasma, while the third group (control) was left without treatment. On day 56, all of the dogs had biomechanical tests done with the Universal Testing Machine, which was placed between the ends of the bones at the osteotomy site. The average maximum loads in Group (AM+PRP) were higher than in other groups (2.14 ± 0.050). The values of the (AM) group were (1.52 ±0.086). While fracture values were found to be lower in the control group than in the (AM) and (AM+PRP) groups (1.05 ± 0.050). It was found that bones recovered with AM+PRP (group) had the highest value and tibias recovered without treatment (control group) had the lowest value. Of the current study was that the application of amniotic membrane loaded with platelet rich plasma to the fracture site significantly improves the biomechanical strength of the fracture union.

Title : ATTITUDE AND UTILIZATION OF ANTENATAL CARE SERVICES BY PREGNANT WOMEN IN UDI LGA OF ENUGU STATE

Abstract :

The poor utilization of antenatal care (ANC) services by pregnant women in rural communities compared to the customary patronage of traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in the study area was the impetus for this study. To assess the attitude and utilization of ANC by pregnant women in Udi LGA of Enugu State. Cross-sectional survey of 62 pregnant women (mean age=28.11 years) between 20 and 32 weeks of pregnancy and recruited using multistage sampling from households, TBAs, houses, churches, and women meetings were conducted using a researcher-administered questionnaire designed to elicit responses on their demographic characteristic, attitude to ANC services and their utilization of ANC services. The majority of the participants showed good attitudes towards ANC services; however, the utilization of ANC services by pregnant women in the study area was generally poor as most of the ANC services were used by less than 50% of the respondents. Some of the reasons alluded to for this poor utilization include absenteeism of health workers (43.5%) and distant locations of primary health centres (9.68%). Age (r=-0.300; p=0.018), education (r=0.522; p<0.0001), number of children (r=-0.255; p=0.046), spouses’ education (r=0.278; p= 0.029), and monthly income (r=0.310; p=0.014) had statistically significant correlation with the utilization of ANC services among the study participants. Rural communities in developing countries generally face myriads of challenges that affect their attitudes and utilization of antenatal care services including Limited healthcare personnel, fewer economic opportunities, rising poverty levels, low educational infrastructure, and high parity.

Title : FACTORS PREVENTING TRANSLATION OF KNOWLEDGE TO PRACTICE OF BIRTH PREPAREDNESS AND COMPLICATION READINESS AMONG EXPECTANT MOTHERS IN OJI-RIVER, ENUGU

Abstract :

Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is an aspect of the antenatal care intervention that ensures the timely use of skilled maternal and neonatal care. However, many women in developing countries have shown poor translation of knowledge regarding BPCR to practice. To identify the practice level for BPCR and explore the obstacles making the translation of BPCR knowledge to practice difficult among expectant mothers in Enugu Nigeria. This cross-sectional survey recruited 36 expectant mothers (mean age: 25.833 ± 3.12years) within 24-28weeks of pregnancy through a multistage sampling technique from selected pregnant women service centres in Oji-River Enugu, Nigeria. A Validated researchers' adapted questionnaire and observational checklist were used to collect data on their sociodemography and BPCR practices. Major findings revealed that BPCR practice level was generally poor (<50%) in most of the seven practice areas of BPCR except in the identification of a place for delivery (88.9%), arrangement for transportation (66.7%) and birth companion (77.8%). The Respondents’ occupation (p = 0.043) and monthly income (p = 0.003) had a significant influence on BPCR practice. Additionally, there were a consistent pattern of dominant influence on BPCR readiness by middle ages (25-30), secondary education, self-employed, ≤₦15,000 personal income, and having 1 to 3 children. Paucity of funds is an obstacle mainly inhibiting the translation of BPCR knowledge to practice. It is recommended that social welfare and government should improve BPCR by stepping in, to relieve the financial burden of childbirth.

Title : IMPACT OF NURSE-LED HEALTH EDUCATION INTERVENTION ON COMPLIANCE LEVEL OF ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS DRUG TREATMENT AMONG TB PATIENTS IN HOSPITALS, NIGERIA.

Abstract :

This study assessed the impact of nurse-led health education on the compliance level of anti-tuberculosis drugs among patients in referral hospitals in Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design involving a control group pre-test-post-test involving was employed, and a sample of 194 was drawn from the two total populations of 339 patients using purposive and simple random techniques. Self-developed questionnaires and checklists were the instruments for data collection. The pre-post-test were administered to both the intervention and control groups while only the intervention group received nurse-led health education. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used, inferential statistics were used to compare the groups and test the effects of the intervention on the compliance level of the participants. Baseline findings revealed that participants in both groups showed a very poor level of compliance [Control. (9.0%), Interventions. (6.0%). The compliance level with the PTB drug regimen was found to be significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group post-intervention [int. (90.6%), con. (16.2%)] at p < 0.05. Nurse-Led health education had a significant effect on compliance with the TB drug regimen (p < .001). There was a statistically significant difference in the compliance level of the intervention group before and after the health education intervention (t = 18.86, p = 0.000 at p < 0.05). Health education has a significant impact on compliance levels. There is a need to provide psychological counselling and TB education strategies should be made available in each referral centre.

Title : Risks Factors Influencing Breast Cancer A Health Problem?

Abstract :

The incidence of oncological diseases has increased considerably worldwide. The purpose of clarifying the relationship of different risk factors with the development of breast cancer. Summarize information on the factors associated with breast cancer and its main components of prevention and early detection. Risk factors play an important role in the presentation and treatment of the disease by the individual components and thus determine even the type of procedure.
